The pump industry is vast and essential in various aspects of our lives, including water supply, fire protection, oil and gas, power plants, wastewater treatment, household sump pumps, chemical processing, food and pharmaceuticals, and more. Indian pumps, serving diverse sectors from agriculture to nuclear power generation, are expected to capture a larger share of the global market. With exports reaching about 70 countries, the Indian pump industry is set to grow at a rate faster than the global average, according to an industry study. The global pump industry is a vital sector in the manufacturing and engineering landscape, playing a crucial role in various applications across multiple industries. It is estimated to be valued at around $70 billion, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 4-6 per cent from 2023 to 2030. (Source: Oxford economics, 2024). The market is expected to grow steadily, projected to expand at an annual rate of approximately 4 per cent. This growth is driven by several factors, including industrialization, urbanization, and the increasing demand for efficient fluid handling solutions. The Indian pump industry is a significant and growing sector, driven by the country increasing focus on infrastructure development and the expansion of water-intensive industries such as agriculture and construction. The government’s push for the adoption of solar pumps, especially in rural areas, has further boosted the industry. With a strong manufacturing base, the industry has evolved into a mature market with substantial domestic and international demand. Tamil Nadu, particularly Coimbatore, is a major hub for pump manufacturing in India. The first electric motor in India was produced in Coimbatore in 1930, leading to rapid expansion of the motor pump industry in the region. Currently, Coimbatore manufactures 60% per cent of India’s domestic and agricultural pump sets.
